The first Prius I saw was one driven by a neighbour (ironically they recently replaced it with a gas-guzzling BMW). Theirs was an older version, perhaps even the original model. Now, much as I like the idea of cheap running costs, it looked like Toyota had blown the budget on technology and the exterior design was an afterthought. I like distinctive-looking cars, but struggled with the old bodywork.
If Toyota go ahead with the rumoured Toyota Prius SUV I’m interested to see if the Prius receives another makeover!

Now, stop me if I’m wrong, but as I understand it you can “trade in” older cars for a reduction in the cost of a new one. The theory is that it means car manufacturers have more work to do (especially if owners trade in “old for new”), plus there will be an added benefit of eventually removing older and less reliable cars from the roads and making us all safer.

The whole idea seems controversial in some camps. In Germany, their concurrent scheme is purportedly rife with abuse, and I’m sure that they are not alone.

So, being a car expert, I love stories about sat nav blunders. Now, I travel to new places quite a bit when I’m camping or rock scrambling, so I like to think I’m reasonably “au-fait” with sat navs and can use them. So, when I read these stories, I admit I giggle a bit.
Now, I live near two areas in Lancashire where sat nav blunders have made national news. Both are near Oldham, one being a country lane that is recognised by some as a road, the other being a country lane near Daisy Nook that HGVs get trapped on.
Some sat nav advice I’d give to drivers is “learn how to use your sat nav before you set off”. And remember that even the best sat nav unit might send you anywhere!
